Maelstrom completes a full rotation every 3000 years, for a reason only recently researched. A Bulwark Sky Fortress carrying hundreds of explorers examined the Sphere from inside and out, eventually coming across a chamber at the center of the Sphere containing a sort of clock machine with a 3000 year time span and only a year left in its cycle.
During the exploration, Maelstrom began to shift in form, dropping pieces into the Infinite Ocean without them being melted away and aiming its peculiar spire-like structure at the ocean below. It is unknown what the event means, though it clearly signifies something to come for Aurora, given its central position.
